Lagoon and Island Tour of Aitutaki
Aitutaki Lagoon is 20 kilometres at its widest point and quite shallow. In fact over three-quarters of the lagoon is less than 15 feet deep! This results in a vast expanse of brilliant turquoise water, bordered by small romantic, uninhabited islands, called 'motu'. It is the perfect playground for snorkelling, sailing, swimming ... and a day cruise trip to a deserted motu for lunch beside the palm trees. Day cruises in Aitutaki are one of the top favourite activities for tourists visiting this beautiful atoll.
Other activities include scuba diving, usually on the outer reef where divers can experience wonderful coral and abundant marine life. Most resorts and budget accommodation places in Aitutaki will help arrange your activities and lagoon cruising. Some larger resorts have their own boats, while smaller places often utilise the services of dedicated lagoon cruise operators.
